Superior Town Council unanimously adopted the 2024 International Fire Code on second reading Sept. 28. The ordinance applies the code townwide and adds local provisions for properties served by the Mountain View and Louisville fire districts, the meeting recording shows.

Ordinance O-22, Series 2026, adopts the code and several appendices as part of the Town’s municipal code. It covers standards for the construction, alteration, use and maintenance of buildings and other improvements to protect public health and safety, the ordinance says.

Most of the local provisions apply in areas served by the Mountain View Fire Protection District. The ordinance names the District as the code-compliance agency there and its fire marshal as the fire-code official. It allows the District to set permit and inspection fees and establishes provisions for fire access, water supply and fire-protection systems. Examples include driveway-access standards for single-family homes, fire-cistern requirements, and owner responsibility for maintaining and testing private hydrants. It also sets requirements for certain fire alarms and sprinkler systems, and for construction documents for tents or membrane structures larger than 500 square feet.

The requirements vary by property and may depend on the applicable building code or the fire-code official’s determination. In areas served by the Louisville Fire Protection District, the ordinance makes narrower amendments: it revises one penalty provision and deletes another section of the fire code.

The ordinance takes effect 10 days after publication. The council packet does not specify the publication date.
