Boulder staff are exploring how to fund wildfire-resilience work that one staff member estimated could cost $30 million to $40 million. The staff member told the Environmental Advisory Board on Oct. 7 that staff planned to discuss financing options with City Council, the meeting video shows.
Options staff want to explore include bonds, special improvement districts and a revolving loan fund for homeowners. Under the loan concept, homeowners could take out low- or no-interest loans for home-hardening work and repay them through an obligation tied to the mortgage that would stay with the property. The staff member also said Council did not support redirecting climate-tax dollars to the work.
Staff said they hoped to bring investment levels and financing strategies to Council in October.
