Superior reported that households served by its Republic Services contract diverted 30.3% of collected material from landfill so far in 2026. The contract serves 1,249 households, according to the town’s October waste-program update.

Superior’s Zero Waste goal sets a 65% diversion target for residential single-family waste by 2030. The town defines diversion to include reducing consumption, reusing, recycling and composting. Staff described Republic’s reported rate as material recycled and composted, so the contract figure and the town’s goal do not measure exactly the same things.

Staff said Republic provides monthly tonnage by waste stream and diversion reports, and that a full year of data would be useful for assessing the contract’s rate. Staff also plans to return to the council in January with details on state recycling reimbursements and a related contract amendment, according to a council presentation.
