Longmont council to consider fixed rent-rebate payments
The proposal would replace a rebate based on 20% of one month’s rent with payments of $140 to $300, depending on household size.

Longmont City Council is scheduled to discuss Oct. 27 whether to ask staff to draft an ordinance replacing the rent-based part of the city’s rebate program with fixed payments. The proposed change would set payments by household size rather than rent amount; it has not been adopted.
Under the proposal, one-person households would receive $140, two-person households $210, and households of three or more $300. Staff proposes adjusting the amounts annually for inflation using the Consumer Price Index. Staff says the payments are based on this year’s average rebates. The staff report to Council says applicants currently submit lease documents and receipts for the rent rebate. Staff says those records can be difficult to obtain and can delay applications.
The packet reports average processing of 30 days on the current platform, compared with 10 days when rent documents do not require follow-up. Staff says the proposed payments would not require an adjustment to the 2027 budget.
The Oct. 27 meeting is a study session. Council is being asked whether to direct staff to bring an ordinance forward.
