The Longmont Housing Authority board approved a restriction on adding people to Housing Choice Voucher households and a new method for calculating voucher payment standards based on two people per bedroom. The restriction passed 5–1; the payment-standard method passed 6–0, according to the Oct. 13 meeting video.

Commissioners debated whether the restriction should allow adult children and siblings to join voucher households. One commissioner warned that excluding adult children could force young people, including those still in school or unable to support themselves, to leave a household. The commissioner also said excluding siblings could make it harder for multigenerational families to stay together. The discussion did not establish the restriction’s exact terms.

Staff described the restriction as a way to manage limited voucher funding. The meeting did not establish how many households might be affected or how much the change might save.

The separate payment-standard method changes how the authority calculates the assistance amount. Staff said it would not prevent a household from renting a larger unit.
