Erie board says History Colorado funding is in for 25-property historic survey

Erie’s Historic Preservation Advisory Board said July 27 that History Colorado will provide $25,000 toward a $35,000 Phase III survey of 25 properties. The town’s preservation program would cover the remaining $10,000.
The board’s agenda had listed the funding as pending. Members said the town and property owners spent about two years preparing the application, but the meeting record did not identify the properties or provide a project schedule.
The survey is intended to document historic properties and identify resources that may warrant further preservation action. History Colorado’s survey-plan grant guidance says the work can evaluate previous surveys, identify historic contexts and current survey needs, and recommend future survey work. The board did not provide Erie-specific documentation standards or milestones.
The board also reported $19,271.86 remaining in its preservation budget. Members said that figure likely does not include an expected $1,100 match for work involving the Eagle Mine. They did not say the match had been paid; if it came from the reported balance, the remaining amount would be $18,171.86.
Board members said Erie’s ordinance requires a survey before a property can be locally landmarked. The record does not specify whether the next step would be a nomination, a board recommendation, a Town Council hearing or another action, and no designation had been completed as of the meeting.
