Longmont commission backs Avis rental-car relocation plan
The 6–0 recommendation would move Avis from a site slated for the city’s planned transit station to 206 South Main Street; City Council will decide the application.
Longmont’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted 6–0 on Sept. 23 to recommend conditional approval of Avis’s plan to move its rental-car operation to 206 South Main Street. City Council will make the final decision at a public hearing because the property borders the St. Vrain Greenway, the commission’s meeting recording shows.
Avis must leave its current location at 1 South Main Street because the property is slated for demolition for the city’s planned 1st and Main Transit Station, the city’s staff report says. The proposed relocation would use an existing building and rear parking lot, with no building or site improvements proposed.
The commission recommended requiring rental-car parking, staging and storage to remain east of the building, away from Main Street, and prohibiting vehicle or equipment displays directly beside the street.
Commissioners also asked whether Avis would wash vehicles on-site and about runoff toward the Greenway. The applicant said it did not yet know whether washing would occur on-site and agreed to provide information about washing and drainage to City Council. The commission did not add a drainage condition to its recommendation.
