Boulder council to consider $144,000 airport pavement grant application
The proposed application would support fall 2026 runway and taxiway maintenance and help Boulder pursue about $1.9 million in potential federal airport grants in 2027 and 2028.
The Boulder City Council is scheduled to consider authorizing a $144,000 Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Grant application for design and construction administration for pavement maintenance at Boulder Municipal Airport.
The item is on the consent agenda for the council’s 5:30 p.m. Sept. 17 meeting. The city’s meeting packet says the application would support a larger project estimated at $379,285.
Staff’s fiscal analysis identifies a $7,200 local share, or 5% of the proposed grant. Staff says the money would be reallocated from savings in an already approved runway and taxiway construction budget, with a related appropriation scheduled to return to the council during the city’s second 2026 budget adjustment.
The project would crack-seal and seal-coat about 4,100 linear feet of Runway 8-26, including blast pads, and about 4,975 linear feet of taxiways. It also would include new airfield markings. Staff says the work is intended to extend pavement life and limit water infiltration and environmental degradation.
Staff says the application also would allow Boulder to participate in the upcoming five-year airport capital-improvement planning process, which could affect about $1.9 million in additional federal grant opportunities for projects in 2027 and 2028.
The project is described as a fall 2026 effort, with the application listing a Sept. 12-Nov. 15 project period. The council agenda identifies the matter as a consent-agenda item scheduled for consideration, not an adopted action.
