Boulder’s recommended 2027 budget lists $63.5 million in planned capital spending for renovation and expansion of the East Boulder Recreation Center, including $17 million in 2027 and $46.5 million in 2028. The project includes recreation and older-adult services.
At an Oct. 26 Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting, public commenter Alex Reinhardt cited the $63.5 million figure and asked about its relationship to a separate $53 million figure. Parks and Recreation Director Ellie Rhodes said staff would look into the difference and ask Reinhardt for his source, the meeting recording shows.
The city’s Future of Recreation Centers page identifies $53 million in Community, Culture, Resilience and Safety tax funding for East Boulder improvements, including energy-efficiency goals. The page describes funding for improvements, not the center’s total project cost. City materials do not specify whether that $53 million is included in the $63.5 million planned spending.
